Southern State's Adult Opportunity Center hosts recognition celebration for the Aspire and Graduation Alliance Programs- Area residents who passed the General Education Development (GED) test or completed the Adult High School Workforce Diploma Program were honored recently at the 36th annual Adult Opportunity Center's Recognition celebration at Southern State Community College's Central СƵ in Hillsboro.
SSCC Board of Trustees to meet June 26- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26 on SSCC's Central СƵ, Room 347, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting. The board will enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining and the employment of a public employee.
Southern State to offer Online Sport Management Course This Fall- Southern State will be offering a new online course this fall, Principles of Sport Management, slated to begin August 25, 2025. Those interested in the sports industry do not want to miss this class!
Southern State Community College honors three employees who will receive SOCHE Excellence Awards- The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) has recognized three Southern State Community College individuals who have demonstrated excellence in service, teaching, and leadership. Those honored with the 2024-25 SOCHE Excellence Awards include Robin Tholen, Nicole Sheppard, and Jessica Steadman.

SSCC announces honors lists for spring semester- Southern State Community College has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for the 2024/25 Spring Semester. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
Ohio University partners with Southern State Community College to create seamless transfer pathways for multiple programs- ATHENS, Ohio (May 27, 2025) – To help enhance educational opportunities for students in the state of Ohio, Ohio University has entered into a partnership with Southern State Community College (SSCC) to establish a streamlined transfer pathway for SSCC students. The agreement will allow students who complete their associate degrees at SSCC to easily transfer to Ohio University and pursue bachelor’s degrees in a variety of fields.
SSCC Theatre Company presents 'Tiny Beautiful Things'- SSCC Theatre Company presents "Tiny Beautiful Things," based on Cheryl Strayed's bestselling book and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos, playing one night only, June 21 at 7:30 p.m., in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central СƵ, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
Southern State Math Faculty Showcase Expertise at International Conference- Southern State is proud to announce that two of its esteemed faculty members were selected to present at the International Symposium on Numeracy Education, held March 20-21, 2025, at the University of Galway in Ireland. The conference brought together leading experts, scholars, and professionals from around the world, providing a global platform for academic exchange and collaboration.
Southern State's ADN program celebrates graduation- Thirty-three graduates of Southern State Community College's Associate Degree Nursing Program were recognized during a May 8 pinning ceremony at the college's Central СƵ in Hillsboro.
Southern State Celebrates 2025 Commencement Ceremony- Southern State Community College recognized the graduating class of 2025 during its annual commencement ceremony held Friday, May 9, in the College's Patriot Center.
Southern State Hosts Third Annual Ohio Code Scholar Event- On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Southern State hosted the third annual end-of-year celebration for students, faculty, and staff involved in the Ohio Code Scholar (OCS) project. This event culminated the program's hard work in southern Ohio, supporting the Ohio Code Scholar (OCS).
Southern State Nursing Students Surpass National Average on State Tests- Southern State's second-semester nursing students, who completed their standardized Fundamentals Exam, and final-semester nursing students, who completed their standardized Pharmacology Exam, earned exceptional test scores, significantly surpassing the national average for both groups.
Southern State to hold youth summer program June 24 & 25- Southern State Community College is excited to announce Kids Career Encounter, a Summer Enrichment Program on June 24 & 25, 2025, for students entering 4th - 8th grade.

Auditions for SSCC Theatre Company's "Tiny Beautiful Things" will be May 6- SSCC Theatre Company invites students and community members to audition for its summer production of "Tiny Beautiful Things." Auditions will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium at Southern State Community College's Central СƵ, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
Governor DeWine Visits Southern State Community College- Ohio Governor Mike DeWine visited Southern State Community College to tour its state-of-the-art Engineering and Computer Science classroom space, highlighting the institution's role in preparing students for high-demand careers in technology and innovation.
Alanna Mays Named a 2025 New Century Transfer Scholar- Alanna Mays, a student at Southern State Community College, has been named a 2025 New Century Transfer Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship.
Four SSCC Students Named to the All-Ohio Academic Team- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce that four current SSCC students have been named to the All-Ohio Academic Team. The students, joining other honorees from Ohio's community college system, will be honored for their excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. A ceremony to recognize this year's award winners will be held virtually on May 1.

Southern State Announces New 5-Week Fiber Optic Course- Southern State Community College is excited to announce the launch of a 5-week Fiber Optic course, designed for individuals of all skill levels, that will equip students with the essential skills needed to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of fiber optics.
Apply for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship at Southern State to receive Free Education- The Choose Ohio First (COF) Scholarship application is now available to first-time students who plan to attend Southern State Community College this fall. Choose Ohio First is part of a strategic effort to strengthen Ohio's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholars and industry leaders.
SSCC Board of Trustees to meet February 19- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19 on SSCC's Central СƵ, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The board will consider resolutions to use sale proceeds for capital improvements, to authorize the president to explore an alternative utility easement option, and to authorize the closing document signatures.
Application Deadline Announced for SSCC Nursing Program- Southern State Community College has announced February 28 as the deadline for applications to the ADN Program (traditional pathway, five semesters). Additional completed applications will be accepted until June 2, as seats become available. It is encouraged to apply early to secure your place in the program.
Southern State offers Streamlined Teacher Education Pathways- Interested in teaching elementary or middle school students? What about high school students? Maybe specializing in Career Technical Education or Intervention Specialist? Southern State Community College is now offering concentrations in Teacher Education to support the shortage of quality educators in our region - and at a fraction of the cost of a 4-year institution. These innovative pathways are designed to provide students with the academic foundation for various teacher licensures and hands-on experience that will enable them to transfer to four-year institutions and obtain teacher licensure quicker.
Southern State to offer FAFSA Walk-in Clinics during February- February is Financial Aid Awareness Month. To celebrate, Southern State will host FAFSA walk-in clinics on Wednesday afternoons throughout the month aimed at helping current and prospective students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year.

Fall Semester scholarship application opens February 1 at Southern State- Students enrolled, or planning to enroll, at Southern State Community College for the Fall Semester, which begins in August, can benefit from various financial resources to help offset the cost of a college education.
Southern State Announces Human and Social Services Faculty Member- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce Patricia Beach, of Wilmington, as the new full-time faculty member for the Department of Human and Social Services (HSSR). Beginning Spring Semester, which started January 13, Beach transitioned from a part-time faculty member to full-time status.
Southern State Announces Honors Lists for Fall Semester- Southern State Community College has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for Fall Semester 2024.
