This program focuses on the design of technological information systems, including computing systems, as solutions to business and communications support needs. The program includes instruction in the principles of computer hardware and software components, programming, application support and human interface design.

Choose Ohio First Scholarship

Choose Ohio First BannerThe Choose Ohio First (COF) Scholarship is part of a strategic effort to strengthen Ohio's STEM workforce. The scholarship can be used for tuition, instructional and general fees, and book vouchers (will not fund lab fees). Choose Ohio First is funded through the state budget process with general revenue dollars.

First-time students in the Computer Technology curriculum will be awarded on an application basis based on eligibility and funds allocated towards the program. Students must complete the application form to be considered for the scholarship.

The Fall 2024-2025 academic year application deadline is July 31, 2024. Southern State Community College will notify COF award recipients via mail with letters being sent out on Monday, August 5, 2024.

Graduates of this program should be able to:

  • Design, code and develop applications for multiple operating systems to control operations inside and outside a computer system.
  • Create and implement a plan to install, configure and troubleshoot multiple computer operating systems.
  • Create and implement a plan to install, configure, and troubleshoot networking hardware and software.
  • Analyze and understand the impact of securing information on a computer system.
  • Understand and demonstrate how to be a professional in an information technology work setting.
